Newton Farm Community Association – Recycle Cycles
This group from Hereford work to improve the well-being of residents in their area to benefit by
providing opportunities for education, leisure and social activities as well as improving health and their
environment.
The group attended our Recycle Cycles course as they wanted to –
Repair unsafe and un-roadworthy bicycles, thus allowing them to make a small charge for the
service.
This would then allow them to service and repair children’s bicycles free of charge
Any donated bikes would be repaired and re-sold at realistic prices to a deprived community
They received a grant of £300 to purchase tools to help with this project.
Since receiving the money and purchasing the tools the group have had volunteers and mentors come
forward who are interested in the project. They also have donated bikes ready to be worked on, the
group are now just waiting on a premises they can use as their workshop, and this should be ready in
early 2015.
The group have also been to visit Bristol Bike Project who gave them a tour and provided them with
useful and helpful advice.
West Mercia Police have re-written their policy on giving unclaimed stolen bikes to a community group
as they see this as a very worthwhile project.
After being let down twice previously with a premises they hope it will be third time lucky so they can
really kick on with this project in 2015 and reach as many young people as they can.
“Thank you for a really useful course and the funding”
