Morda Golden Garden Association – Community Allotments

Morda Golden Garden Association have a plot of land which they use as a community garden, they

use it as a place where the community can go and grow vegetables and flowers and get to know each

other. The garden helps people to find new friends and it also promotes community spirit.

After attending our Community Allotments course the group were successful in their application for a

grant of £240 to purchase a petrol strimmer and hedge trimmer. They wanted these items so they

could keep the allotment tidy as they were currently having to rely on others to do this for them.

Managing their own allotments this way would mean that they could collect the grass cuttings to use

as compost over the fruit trees.

The group are happy to report that their allotment is looking much tidier as they are able to keep on

top of strimming the grass and trimming the hedges, this has benefitted the community and the forest

school which is ran there.

Now that their allotments are tidier the group are hoping to get a compostable toilet installed which

can be used by the gardeners and other groups that use the facilities. The allotment is now a much

more usable space which the group now use to put on a variety of community events.
